In the current lockdown, we are unable to use our charity shop to fund any referral work.

However, we are committed to continuing to help families in need during this time as the needs remain, and have the potential to increase.

Please consider donating towards our work to sustain this valuable initiative through this uncertain time. We are also recruiting volunteers, so please get in touch by clicking on the image below or email small.steps@hopeoxford.org to get in touch with any questions and find out more.

What IS Small Steps?

Small Steps is our first community focused initiative receiving our first referrals in December 2020, from our new home at Templars Square Shopping Centre.

It provides good-quality new and second hand children’s clothes. These can be bought in the charity shop on Thursdays, and are available for free by referral appointment on Mondays. In addition there is equipment available to families that need it.

Any questions, please email us:

We share new or good quality second hand items for free or low cost, regardless of income, faith or background.

accessing Support

We stock donations of clothes and equipment for babies and children to help families who may struggle to afford these items, including giving ‘Baby Baskets’ to Oxford mums-to-be.

You can book a slot on Mondays if your family are impacted by health, financial or other significant need.

You can self-refer to book a visit, but you will need to have a named person who can confirm that the child/children in your care would benefit from accessing Small Steps.

The trusted person of your choice needs be in a formal role (i.e. not a friend or family member) such as a teacher or nursery worker, health care professional, social worker, a professional from a support organisation, or a recognised leader, if you are part of a faith community.

There is a need in the area for good quality, low cost children’s clothing, so on Thursday mornings from December, we plan to open as a low-price shop.

Book a visit on Mondays using the link below, and you will be prompted for the contact details of that trusted person.

Charity bike ride

On Hope Vineyard’s 3rd Birthday, 12th September 2020 a team of cyclists set out on a charity bike ride.

1 ride, 2 routes; one route of 111 miles, another of 56, both raising money for ‘Small Steps’.

The aim of Small Steps is to make a significant difference to a number of families currently facing hardship. This number is predicted to increase as the longer-term repercussions of the coronavirus outbreak take effect.

Our pre-school group for babies and toddlers

(10:30-11:30am, on the1st Wednesday of the month)

‘Bags of fun’

Welcome to our community for pre-schoolers.

‘Bags of Fun’ started in October 2019, when we set up some toys in the middle of the shopping centre with free crafts and a song and story time for pre-school children and their parents/carers that were passing by.

Our motto was ‘have fun, make friends’, and that’s exactly what happened. With March 2020 came the new challenges of lockdown. However we have since re-emerged more determined than ever to create opportunities for children to interact with their parents/carers, and where safe, and rules allow, with each other.

“It was so nice to meet other children and families again.”

Given the limitations of our venue capacity, we’ve changed how we can run, with a limit of 10 families. We are trialing a group that comes together for 4 sessions over 4 months. After this time, others can join in online, to make space for more children to benefit from gathering in person.

If you or a local family you know would value being a part of this group, then please sign up to our waiting list to express an interest. The next available group sessions will be from March 2021.

(It’s all free)
